Before you try to fulfill your obligations or exercise your rights in connection with available public preventive healthcare measures, check the following:

  • Are you or your family members covered by the health insurance in the Slovak Republic?

You can check your insurance coverage on the dedicated portal of the Health Care Surveillance Authority.
If you do not have a full health care coverage, you may be required to pay the associated costs in full.

2. What should citizens expect?

The scope of health care covered by public health insurance is governed by Act No 577/2004 (Only in Slovak).

  • Citizens should consult their physicians regarding preventive check-ups.
  • The list of health care providers is also available on the National Contact Point website.
  • Health insurance companies also inform insured persons on preventive check-ups aimed at preventing the deterioration of their health condition.
  • EU citizens who want to undergo a selected preventive check-up or treatment with a health care provider in Slovakia should consult their health insurance company or the national contact point of their country about the possibility of coverage or reimbursement of costs of these procedures.

3. Who can citizens consult when they do not know what to do?

  • Your general practitioner will answer any questions regarding preventive check-ups.
  • Citizens can find information regarding concrete general district practitioners at e-VÚC (only in Slovak).
  • This website contains all information regarding health care personnel, practices, office hours, addresses, etc.

4. What sanctions are applicable for non-compliance with obligations?

The purpose of preventive health care check-ups is to identify already developed diagnoses, but also diagnoses that have not yet clinically manifested themselves as well as identifiable risk indicators of a disease. Therefore, it is very important to keep preventive check-ups in mind.
