Employment

Maternity leave is a justified period to which every working woman is entitled. The birth itself and the care of the newborn baby are circumstances that require time. In this article you will find all the important information about taking maternity leave, its duration and your entitlements as an employee.

Maternity leave

In connection with the childbirth and care for a newborn child, women are entitled to maternity leave for the duration of 34 weeks.

Single mothers are entitled to maternity leave of 37 weeks. Women giving birth to two or more children simultaneously are entitled to maternity leave for 43 weeks. In connection with the care for a newborn child, men are also entitled to parental leave from the birth of the child of the same amount, provided that they are caring for the newborn child.

Parental leave

To encourage the provision of care for the child, the employer is obliged to provide parents with parental leave upon request until the day the child reaches the age of three.

In the case of a child with long-term unfavourable health condition requiring special care, the employer is obliged to provide the parent, upon request, with parental leave until the day the child reaches the age of six.
