Working for the civil service

Employment

The civil service could be described as work for the state. The civil service is active at places such as ministries, other national bodies of state administration, and local bodies of state administration. The people working for the civil service are civil servants. Civil servants’ activities may include specialist tasks related, for example, to decision-making in administrative proceedings, the preparation of draft legislation, and the preparation of conceptual or strategy documents. The civil service is regulated legislatively by the Civil Service Act. This law does not apply to the service provided by police officers, professional soldiers or members of the Fire and Rescue Service, which is regulated by special regulations (this is a specific area of civil service that is not covered by the information on this site).
